Eating dead babies

Since I moved out of home a few years ago I haven't eaten heaps of meat.  Not intentionally, but it helps keep my food bill down.  In an attempt to have more energy and concentration during my long work days I started buying the single portions of meat when it's on sale at my supermarket.  Can't go past a $3 lamb chop.

Look how thick this baby is!!  :)

I paired him with some sweet potato and rosemary chips, broccoli, and a salad with capsicum, spinach, mushrooms, cucumber and alfalfa.  There's also a bit of tomato chutney on the side there.

I'm happy to say the running is starting to pick up again.  I've been off work for the last few days on study leave which means I can run at times other than 6am or 10pm.  Plus it has been sunny, but not too warm, which is always motivating!!  I did the usual 6.4km lake run on Wednesday and Saturday, and then a 10km run up around the Tan and back yesterday.  I'm thinking today I'll give the running a rest and use that gym membership I've been neglecting to go to a Pump class later.  My gym is literally on the beach and looks out over the water.

My gym is that building in the photo.  The cardio machines look out over the water and any bikini clad backpackers sitting on the beach.  Great motivation ;)  Still, if possible I'd always rather run along the beach or by the lake than slog it out on a machine.  I only got a membership a couple of months ago when winter kicked in and it was too dark, cold, and windy to run after work.  I got it half price through work and paid up front so I don't feel bad if I don't use it, as long as I'm doing something with my body.

Now I am finishing off half a tub of Jalna yoghurt.  Eating out of the tub like a real classy lady.  I forgot this stuff exists for a while.

Hundreds of millions of probiotics swimming in my tummy.

Okay, gotta go attend to some work issues (I thought I was meant to be on leave!!) and then hit the books.

Sun sun sun

On weekdays I'm always itching for another hour, minute, second of sleep.  Of course, today is a Saturday and so I was wide awake at 6.30.  I kicked around the idea of going for a run.  The angel and devil in my head argued for a while until I decided that I had no good reasons at all not to do it.  I had enough time, it's the warmest day since April and I would have had to shower before I went to class regardless.  I was a bit worried about not making the distance because I haven't done ANY exercise for a couple of weeks other than some netball, but I told myself if I really wanted to I could walk, and that got me out the door and across the street.

I am SO glad I did it.  My run was more of a run/walk/run/walk/run/walk, but it was such a nice warm sunny morning.  I did the 6.5km in about 40 minutes all up, of which I probably walked 1-2km.  Walking back across the park to my flat I had a real endorphin high, which I found amusing because I didn't really work that hard, but it was probably enhanced by the weather.

Breakfast was porridge with chia, a banana and blueberries.  I don't normally have blueberries because of the cost but they were one of the things I splurged on in my supermarket spree last night.

Class was meant to be from 8.30 - 6 with no real break so I packed a lunch:

Obviously need to work on my photo skills.   It was bigger than it looks in the photo above.  I was starving about 1 and ate the salad in class.
  • Spinach
  • Capsicum
  • Mushroom
  • Cucumber
  • Alfalfa sprouts
  • Bean sprouts
  • Can of tuna and beans

I lucked out and got an awesome tutor who sped our program up so we got out about 2.30 and I got to enjoy the sun.  Before I got home I stopped in a park for a quick nap, which was pretty much the most amazing 15 minutes.

Tonight is relatively quiet.  I'm going to dinner and a concert with my mum and resisting the calls of friends to come out and party.  Tomorrow morning I'm running the first in a series of 3 races.  They are all 8km, which is totally achievable, but as I only signed up the other day (part of kicking my butt into gear) I will probably be doing the run/walk/run thing again.  Oh well, at least I am guaranteed to improve in the second race.

Now I'm off to get my rocker girl on with my mum!  Have a good weekend everyone :)

Is this thing on?

So.  This is the awkward part where I grab your attention.   Maybe I'll just get straight to the good bit.

Today's food was pretty average but satisfying.  Breakfast was a soy fw and fruit bread from the cafe across from where I'm working.  I don't normally buy breakfast but I was short on time this morning and their fruit toast is amazing with dates and apricots through it.  Yum.  Lunch was a ham and salad wrap... bought again.  Bad habit to be in, it wasn't super expensive but breakfast and lunch all up was about $12 which is $12 that could be in my pocket right now.

On the way home from work I went past the supermarket and went a bit nuts.  There was cheap salmon which I baked and teamed with some sweet potato fries.  I also bought something I'd had my eye on for a while - wasabi paste.  It's not that expensive (about $3 for a tube) but for some reason I can never justify buying it.  But wasabi and salmon are one of those combos just that fits together beautifully.

I like my salmon pretty raw in the middle, and this was perfect.

I was planning to go running but it's turned from nice warm weather into a windy cold night.  I live near the water which is great to run by, except when it's cold and windy.  I'm going to give it a miss and study instead.  Goodnight!
